There seems to be at least 4 standard beliefs of what truth is:
- relativism – truth changes, it is relative
- subjectivism – how I perceive it to be
- traditionalism – thinking that tradition (what we’ve been taught) supercedes the truth
- absolutism – the truth is either black or white
Now I say this carefully hoping that you will read it completely through so that you won’t jump to the incorrect conclusion….. People who believe “God will make me happy” may be in danger of one of the above beliefs. So, for example, if one lives their life the way they want, and they are or become unhappy, then it’s “God failed.” “The truth failed.” They will define truth by what makes them happy. “As long as I am happy, the truth really doesn’t matter”. This belief, that happiness is about me, seems to destroy the nature of truth. That God is truth. It destroys standards of behavior. It assumes that “whatever makes me happy, must be right, and whatever doesn’t make me happy, must be wrong.” These people believe that in order to have happiness, everything must be fun, exciting. My happiness is what matters.
(I hope I am doing this justice) Happiness will not come from relying on things of this world.
Satan, that serpent, has convinced many of us that the artificial things of this world will make us happy.
Proverbs 14:12 states: There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.
